PRESS RELEASE

Very Kinky Girls Erotica Book banned from self-publishing giant BookTango for being ‘Blatantly Pornographic’

Author defends book as harmless, satirical erotica and failure to publish the book is an infringement of the freedom of speech act.

London, U.K., May 15th, 2016 (eRelease) – Self Publishing House BookTango have cancelled Elena Hexthorn’s debut book of 7 tales of erotica entitled “VERY KINKY GIRLS” after citing it as ‘explicitly sexual’ and ‘purely pornographic’. Elena Hexthorn, a former writer for the erotica section of Penguin Random House has had a number of tales of erotica previously published and defends the book as harmless, satirical in nature and that not publishing the book to be an infringement of a number of international Freedom of Speech laws.

Ebook expert at Book Tango Donna Mercado’s response: This email is being sent to advise you that your eBook with Booktango is being cancelled. The reason for this is because the materials being submitted are purely sexual and are flagged as pornographic with very explicit content. As per Author Solutions policy goes:  contents cannot be overly sexual. Booktango does cater to erotic genres but erotica is completely different from pornography and as far as the descriptions and content of the materials submitted, it all fell under pornography. Please do understand that the main goal of Booktango is to be an open website for authors whose intent is to share their art to the whole world.”

Elena Hexthorn’s response was that her debut book “Very Kinky Girls” is in fact, Art. It is satirical in nature, definitely designed to take people outside of their comfort zone, but still harmless; and that failure to publish the book is an infringement of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human rights 1948, article 19. She also added that it is not the place of a self-publishing company to make judgement calls on the morality of modern sexuality in literature.

Book Tango: a division of Author Solutions was recently sold by Penguin Random House to an affiliate of the Najafi Companies, a private investment firm that at one point owned Bookspan and made an offer to buy several hundred Borders outlets after the chain filed for Chapter 11. Book Tango was sold by Penguin after a court action from a group of authors pertaining to non-payment of royalties in February 2015.

Miss Hexthorn’s book has been accepted by Amazon Kindle (and as a hard copy) (UK, U.S.A, France, Germany, Japan & worldwide), Barnes & Noble’s Nook, iBooks, Smashwords and is shortly due out in recorded form on Audible. Elena Hexthorn reiterates that the book is not purely pornographic and addresses situations about modern sexuality in a harmless and entertaining way.
